The Blogger is Back

I have lots of stuff to talk about today. I am excited to get back into the swing of things with this entry. I hope everyone is enjoying their week and will also enjoy this entry. Today I am going go discuss different topics relating to numerous subjects. There has been plenty going on in the sporting world, some awesome new tunes released, and some crazy you tubes since last week. Let’s get it on!!

Hollywood Hopeful
I want to start by saying good luck to one of my best friends. Joey DiBacco, or Chewy as most of you know him is getting ready to live manys childhood dream. This upcoming weekend, Joey is moving out to Hollywood with aspirations of making a name for himself in the entertainment industry. Don’t worry, he isn’t just picking up and leaving, praying to make it on his own. Joey has been signed to an agency that will help him obtain work once he settles down in Hollywood. We have all heard someone say, “Do you know how many people are trying to do that?” I have heard that question a countless number of times. Realistically though, have you ever met someone in your life as unique as Chewy? I can answer that for you. NO. I really think that Joey has a good chance of finding some solid work in the entertainment industry. There is no way possible for talent scouts to forget a conversation with this character. I am a firm believer in the future of Chew in regards to the entertainment industry. Again, good luck buddy. I can’t wait to take the trip to Sundance next year.

The Cleveland Cavaliers
This is the first time I’ve had the opportunity to touch on the new look Cleveland Cavaliers. This trade made the Cavs the front-runner of Eastern Conference. I love everything about the trade. I think that people need to overlook the first few weeks of this teams play. After watching the first three games with this revamped lineup, there is a lot of work that needs to be done. It is tough to start three new players in the middle of the season. The cohesiveness is not there…yet. With some work, and a little bit of repetition, the Cavs are going to be fine. Don’t let the back to back losses discourage you Cavs fans. The verdict on the trade will not be known until just around playoff time. Let’s see what the Cavs can do with a complete line up. The starting five is going to look like this; James, Z, Wallace, Sasha, and West. With Wally, Smith, Varejao, Jones, and Gibson rotating into the line up. That is a solid group, and with some time on the court, they are going to be tough to beat. Over the past three games, there are a few things I have seen in the Cavs that I have been pleased with. The first comes with coach Mike Brown. I know I dog him the majority of the time, but I think what he did last night in Boston should be noted. After not getting calls in Milwaukee two evenings ago, combined with no calls last night in Boston, Brown flipped out on officials. He stood up to the officials for his team. Nice to see a coach lose it every once in a while. The play of Joe Smith has also been an excellent perk of last weeks trade. Smith quietly plays very solid basketball on both ends of the floor. I pray he can keep it up. I really hope that last nights loss did not hurt the mentality of the Cavs players. I wonder if Mike Brown is a good enough coach to make the players realize that the loss in Boston means very little. The Cavs will never have to play a top tier team, in the second night of a back to back, on the road. Not many teams play very good in the same spot the Cavs were in last night. Look for the Cavs to develop slowly, and become a powerhouse around playoff time.

One Sickening Stat: The Cavs are -31 with Ben Wallace on the floor. (Thanks Smarter)

Ang: I will touch on the Jay –Z thing Sunday. Look at this article from Yahoo.com. There is some interesting stuff about LeBron James in it

Browns Blurb
The Browns have offered Derek Anderson a three year $20 million contract, with $10 million being guaranteed money. Anderson has until Friday to sign the contract. Anderson would be an idiot to not take this kind of money. Not to mention, nobody is sure if another team is interested in Anderson. If he does not take this final offer from the Cleveland Browns, he could potentially be leaving a lot of money on the table. Friday is also the first day of free agency. Look for the Browns to waste no time in the free agency period. Phil Savage knows what he’s doing, where he is headed, and who he has targeted to be his next Cleveland Brown. The next few weeks should be quite interesting in regards to the Cleveland Browns roster. I will address a little bit more about the Browns later.

TOP 5 Time

Today I am going to do my own top five. I know I take a lot of requests for top 5 lists, but I didn’t really see any that appealed to me. Keep the top five lists coming though. Today is going to be a fun one. I am going to pay tribute to my favorite actor. I am going to give you all my top five Denzel Washington movies of all time.

1. Hurricane

I don’t think that this movie ever got the credit that it really deserved. I know that amongst my friends, it is rarely talked about. This film is based on a true story of a boxer’s unfair fall from grace. Washington gives fans an unforgettable performance in this movie. He also bulks up to make the part of a professional boxer more believable. Make sure you watch this as soon as possible if you have never seen it.

2. Training Day

How awesome of a role does Denzel play in this film? This film won Washington his second Academy Award, and made him the best actor on the planet in my eyes. This flick was so good, that I had to see it twice in theatres. Washington’s acting job in this flick is so good because we never really learn the truth about him and his character until the conclusion of the film.

3. Remember the Titans

I told you all once before, I am a sucker for the feel good sports story. This flick is no different. It is a movie that every father MUST show their son. This is a movie that could inspire any child to want to become a football player. Washington is memorable in Remember the Titans because of the demeanor as a football team during times of racial tension.

4. Man on Fire

This was one of Washington’s most emotionally charged performances. There are very few characters in a movie that I have ever felt emotionally attached to. Washington playing John Creasy did just that. You won’t be disappointed with this flick.

5. Inside Man

I know that this one making the list will draw mixed responses. I love how this movie ends, and think that Washington does a great job of playing the role of a detective in this film. It might not be one of his best performances, but it is definitely one of the best movies he stars in.

I haven’t seen some of his older films in quite some time, so I did not put them on this list. I know that Malcolm X, Philadelphia, and Glory are some of Washington’s best pieces of work. I have also not seen American Gangster yet, so that could not make this list either.

Soundoph Sesh
Thanks for all of the questions. Please feel free to ask a question about anything and everything. I am sure I can give you an opinion on it.

Dave in the Bus asked, What are your thoughts on Money Mayweather taking on the Big Show for a $20 million pay day?

Money May as some prefer to call him struck gold with this deal. What an excellent partner for Mayweather. Not only is Mayweather going to get a pay day that is double his average fight, he is also going to get worldwide exposure. The WWE is a global organization that will help ensure the prominent legacy of Floyd Mayweather. How nice it must be to already know the outcome of the match you are about to participate in. Mayweather won’t even have to train for this match. All he needs to do is roll out of bed, pick up the check, and run around the ring for twenty minutes. Can someone explain the WWE side of this deal? How is this profitable for them?

Mike in New York asked,

1. Who do you see going as the first five picks of the upcoming NFL draft?

2. If you dont see Vernon Gholston going in those top 5, where do you see him going?

3. Who do you think the Browns will take with their first round pick?

4.If the Browns allow Quinn to sit for over 3 years, doesn’t that have to go down as one of the biggest draft blunders ever?

Awesome questions there buddy. I have not looked too much into the draft yet, so this is all subject to change.

  1. Miami Dolphins – Matt Ryan
  2. St. Louis Rams – Chris Long
  3. Atlanta Falcons – Glenn Dorsey
  4. Oakland Raiders – Darren McFadden
  5. Kansas City – Jake Long
  6. New York Jets – Vernon Ghoulston

I am not ready to call last years draft for the Browns a blunder just yet. This upcoming season will tell us plenty about the decision the Browns made to sacrifice their first round pick to the Cowboys. I am a bit saddened that Derek Anderson is going to be such a rich Cleveland Brown in a few days. I understand that he had an awesome season, but this kind of money he is about to receive is nothing but absurd. Mark my words, Brady Quinn will be the Cleveland Browns quarterback midway through the season. I would love to be wrong in this situation, but I don’t see Anderson performing well enough against real football teams. He is not playing against the 15 joke teams he faced last season. The Browns are going to draft defensive nose tackle Joesph (Red) Bryant from Texas A&M with the 56th. We need some meat up front because Ted Washington is just not cutting it up front. The guy moves about three inches for 15 seconds, and then waddles off the field for a drink.

It’s the Music Man

Wiz Khalifa – Say Yeah

Thanks Erin M. for this little gem. I knew you had good taste in music from the day I met you. Check this song out gangsters. This is a cross between rap and an old techno song that I am sure most of you have heard. This song is a lock to make playlists for the next few weeks.

Timbland and Fall Out Boy – One and Only
If you want to see the absolute brilliance of Timbaland, check this song out right away. His beats and style can blend almost any two styles of music. I am a huge fan of crossing rap and rock.

Kanye West – Family Business

If you haven’t heard this tune before, please check it out. This song is one of his bests no doubt. Someone tell me if you honestly do not like this song. I know much music is preference, but this tunes a classic.

Jack Johnson – Taylor

I used to really like this guy. His latest album is a full hour of boring though. Give this old track a listen. This song could very well inspire some of you to dig a little bit deeper for some Jack Johnson material.

Seven Mary Three – Waters Edge

This song is a blast from the past. I was struggling to think of a newer song, so I went old school completely. I am not sure what ever happened to this band, but this song was awesome. If you remember popular songs from back in the day, Cumbersome was Seven Mary Three’s big single.

Sup KJ…I agree with you in that Money May is robbing the WWE blind. While I think the “fight” will be a good promotion for boxing, I doubt it will give the WWE a popularity boost. This “fight” will take place at Wrestlemania and Vince McMahon is hoping that the number one box office draw in boxing will help to attract new fans to wrestling. For a $50 event, this circle jerk will have to attract 400,000 more viewers to pay for itself, thats not happening. I think this experiment could have made more sense for the WWE if Vince paid De La Hoya to take on Sean Michaels, but I guess we will just have to settle for the black David vs. Goliath. Pretty Boy Floyd wont attract wrestling fans, who were going to get Wrestlemania anyway, or persuade boxing fans to see him run his mouth to a freak of nature. However this theatrical recreation of Rocky vs Thunderlips will persuade wrestling fans to purchase De La Hoya Mayweather II at no cost additional cost to either boxer. Look for Mark Cuban to slide Money May a chair, that he will use not on big show, but on his father Floyd Sr. Then Big Show will join teams with Floyd and Choke Slam Floyd Sr. This will hype up the tension between father and son for the rematch since Floyd Sr. will be in Oscar’s corner…

  2. Dave Williams Says:

Heres the question KJ. What wrestler will De La Hoya team up with to come to Floyd Sr. Aid.

  3. I would rather see Keith Vs. Burger round two biting match.

  4. itd be interesting to see mayweather and the big show box….if daves ramble on the situation was on point…i beleive the WWE would for sure get the 400,000 viewers….DA is definatley not worth the 20 mil….we should just get michael vick when hes outta the state pen…imagine that michael vick in the dog pound, ironic….see u this weekend

  5. Dave Williams Says:

    LOL

  6. Jake Shuttlesworth Says:

Did you leave me out because Jesus didnt go to Big State?

  7. 1. Chewey and TO are the two only people to successfully pull off talking in the third person.

    2. Louis from Youuuu runs worse than Ice

    3. Are you a wolf or a sheep?

  8. i dont know joey or chewy but i know jasssssssssssssssssssssssssin

you like that fall out boy/timbo song? color me shocked.

what do you think are the top 5 songs from a movie in the context of the movie. you know… what 5 songs brought the goosebumps when you heard it in the context of the movie. could be a toughy – but i think you have enough time on your hands to tackle it.

  9. Tyler Cortelezzi Says:

    KJ,

The CAVS just need 2 key components. These two things are the most important in anything you do, that is, Confidence and Momentum. Lil bit of that and it is on like donkey kong…ya know.

Denzel is a huge pimp and I really like your top 5, though Hurricane may not be number one, overall it was well put together. I would love to hear your top 5 Kevin Spacey movies….He is the only actor that I think is better than Denzel. No love for John Q. or DeJa Vu…sup with dat?(neither are that great)

I did enjoy Z’s question as well. I remember when Gholston was a sophomore sitting next to me in Sport for a Spectator. At the time he was a backup though his biceps were still the size of my thigh(which is always a sign a player may be a top ten pick). I think he is a no brainer for the top ten.

Which are your top 5 R.L. Stine Goosebumps books of all time??

  10. What up Keith,
Shit going on in mentor. But, the cavs are not the favorites in the east by a long shot. First of all, the trade was a panic move because Lebron thinks he needs more people. Granted on paper it looks ok but come on. Wally world, if he is so good why has he been with 5 teams, West has been traded twice in a year, Joe Smith is decent, but he was a naismith winner who has bounced from team to team. There is a reason for that.
While we all hated Larry Hughes because he can’t shoot worth the crap he did play good defense. The Cavs let Mo Williams of the Bucks destroy them the other night because Dolente West Couldn’t hold his jock strap. This brings me to m last point on the Cavs, With the 2 favorites in the east being the pistons and the celtics who do they think is going to guard RIP and Ray Allen from the Cavs. The answer is no one because, they will just average twenty a game in the playoffs and we will have no answer. And once again the cavs make a trade and we still don’t have a better point guard than Eric Snow to run the team. Team is bad and they will be lucky to make it to the eastern conf. finals.

On the other hand it’s the start of football season at 12:01 tonight, starts free agency. Let the Browns get some d lineman and we will see you in the playoffs no matter who the qb is. The NFL better watch out for the browns this year.

Last thing keith, i know you do not like Baseball but once again Buster Olney of ESPN has picked the Tribe to win it all.

    Peace out

  11. David Martter Says:

    Great Blog Keith.

Not quite ready to put the Cavs up there as the favorite to win the East. I do think its gonna be a 3 way dog fight (Cavs, Boston, Detroit) in which any team could come out on top. People are gonna love Delonte West. He’s the best PG we have had since Andre Miller and will be very good once he gets comfortable in our system.

The stat I mentioned for Ben Wallace makes me a bit nervous. His -31 ratio for the Cavs score while hes on the floor is significantly worse than anyone on the roster. If this trend continues look for Joe Smith to see increased minutes as he seems to be a great fit at the 4 with Lebron.

As for the Browns I think theyre in a great situation. Either way it plays out tomorrow this franchise will be in an excellent position. With 37 million in cap room look for them to make one big move in Free Agency. I can’t see them being as aggressive as the past considering the thin talent this offseason.

Lastly I loved the Denzel section. I would however put Man on Fire as my top choice. You definitely need to check out American Gangster and then revise this section as it would be interesting to see where you place it.

Love the Blog. Cant wait for Lost tonight…

    Martter

  12. Keith,
How about pierre garcon talking with the browns for a late draft pic…kinda cool considering i played on the same team as him and drank blue juice with him
