CAVS MAKE TRADE

This is my final update at 3:40. Late into the afternoon, there has been a trade nearly finished.

Cavs get: Ben Wallace, Wally Szerbiak, Delonte West, and Joe Smith, 2nd round draft pick

Bulls get: Drew Gooden, Larry Hughes, Cedric Simmons

Sonics get: Adrian Griffen, Ira Newble, Donyell Marshall, Shannon Brown

I am running out of cool titles. Hey everyone. Is it Friday yet? I need to be done with school for the week. I have spent too many hours preparing for assignments and exams. I can’t complain though, my friends have clearly stated how much the real world sucks. It is only a matter of time until I’m working the good old nine to five. I am going to focus on mostly sports today. I have a bunch of great questions that I am excited to answer. Remember, there will be a LOST entry tomorrow evening, so please check back.

Quick Browns Chat

There isn’t too much going on in Cleveland sports. I have read that the Browns are headed in the right path on contract negotiations with Derek Anderson. The deal looks to be in the three year range. I have also heard rumors that the Cleveland Browns will take a stab at acquiring Asante Samuel as soon as free agency begins on February 29th. Look for the Browns to do what they did last year, and that is make a splash very quick into the free agency period. Next month, I plan on taking a closer look at the draft, and also the players I think would fit our system well.

Cavs Talk

The Cavs frustrate me. I have heard that they are frantically making a move to pick up either Andre Miller or Mike Miller. I will believe it when I see it. This team isn’t doing anything before the trade deadline February 22. Nobody wants any of our below average bench players anyways. How about Larry Hughes? The fans of the city wanted to run this guy out of town a few weeks ago. Are they still thinking the same thing? I know he has played atrocious during his tenure as the Cavs biggest failure, but let’s face it, he isn’t going anywhere. I think that as long as Hughes can play consistently, the Cavs are capable of beating ANYONE in the East in a seven game series. Stay tuned for the next plot in the Cavaliers soap opera.

UPDATE: As of 10:10 PM tonight, I have heard rumors of the Cavs being involved in a trade that would get rid of Larry Hughes contract, by sending him to Milwaukee for two bums.

UPDATE 2: According to the link above, the Cavs are working hard at pulling off a blockbuster deal. I think it has do with Z and the Mavericks.

UPDATE 3 : 12:07 PM….The Cavs, Grizzlies, and Heat are working toward a blockbuster deal. Marion, Miller, and Hughes seem to be the main parts of the trade. The source is locatd below

Mike in New York asked: My question is simple: Who do you like in the fight: A drunk CT (From MTV) v. Stephen Jackson seeking revenge after one of his boys just got sucker punched?

This fight could go either way. I looked into two different CT situations. The first was when CT and Kenny wrestle. CT gets Kenny to tap out by choking him while on the ground. The other situation I saw was when CT hit Davis to start the season off on Inferno Three. CT is a lunatic. Good thing CT wasn’t part of Brady Quinn’s little crew back on new years. Those people complaining would have been in a world of pain if a drunk CT was present. Stephen Jackson’s pre-game music: DJ Khaled – I’m So Hood. This is the most fitting song for the NBA’s biggest thug. While I may view Jackson as a thug, he is the most loyal teammate in the league. We all saw Jackson lose thirty paychecks by sticking up teammate Ron Artest back in 2004. If you do not know what I’m talking about, stop now and watch the video below. Watch Jackson ball his fists up right when the shove takes place. This guy was pissed and ready to rumble. How do you think that poor fan felt after taking a right hook to the dome? This fight would be a good one, but I see a drunken CT coming out victorious. The only reason I see him winning is because his ground chokes are far superior to Jackson’s wild haymakers. I also asked myself this question, “If I saw a hammered CT or an angry Jackson in a dark alley at 2am, who would I be more afraid of?” CT is a psycho that I would want nothing to do with. I like CT to withstand Jackson’s initial flurry of blows, and to ultimately choke out an angry Jackson.

Some fun things about the video you’re watching in a second:

Mike Brown is about as much help to the situation as he is in Cleveland.

Jermaine O’Neal was the real winner of the evening.

Fred Jones got lucky. Biggie Smalls almost took his head off

Watch Stephen Jackson walk back into the locker room telling the fans to bring it…Smart

Were the cops really going to mace Artest?

Jeff from Parts Unknown (remember what other superstar was from there?) asked: If team USA was to make a “Dream Team” with current NBA players, to go to the Olympics, which 14 players would you add and why?

Thanks Jeff for arguably the best question of the week. I had to DO WORK to answer this question. I spent about 45 minutes overriding trades in NBA Live 08 to make a team that is clearly unbeatable. I didn’t snub Dirk or Nash either; they are not eligible to play on the American teams.

Starting Five

  1. Kobe Bryant
  2. LeBron James
  3. Amare Stoudemire
  4. Kevin Garnett
  5. Allen Iverson

I promise you that there aren’t five basketball players on the planet that could beat this team. When you look at that starting five, you are getting everything a basketball coach could dream of. The strength, skill, and speed of this team are far and above anybody in the world. The chemistry might be a problem early, but I am sure that with a few games played, this team would become unstoppable. This team playing against an opponent reminds me of what it is like playing NBA Live 08 on the rookie difficulty, as the All Time Greats team, against the Knicks. That’s a scary thought.

  1. Dwight Howard
  2. Tim Duncan
  3. Carmelo Anthony
  4. Dwayne Wade
  5. Tracy McGrady
  6. Chris Paul
  7. Derron Williams
  8. Chris Bosh
  9. Gilbert Arenas

Coach: Michael Jordan

I chose MJ as the coach because he might be the only one that instantly gains the respect of these NBA superstars (although Coach K has gained it as well). He has been in these players shoes before, and would do an excellent job keeping the team in check. Don’t get mad about Howard and Duncan not being in the starting lineup. I know they are both hall of fame players, but I want to run a fast paced offense. Garnett and Amare give me the best opportunity to run up and down the floor at maximum potential. Even with the bench players, a coach could let the players draw straws to see who plays, and they would still demolish anybody. Hell, I might be able to put 5 big guys out there and never lose. I know I snubbed Carlos Boozer, Brandon Roy, Jason Kidd, and Chauncey Billups.

Here is my question to you readers:

Could the starting five of this team beat the starting five of the 1992 Dream Team? (Ewing, Pippen, Jordan, Bird, Johnson). I say yes. The new team would dominate on the blocks.

Brian in Mentor asked: Do you think the voters will finally give LeBron James the league MVP? Or will they vote for Chris Paul if the Hornets win the west?

LBJ is the best player in the game today. Nobody has put up the numbers that he has this season, and I would be appalled if the voters see things differently. Chris Paul plays the sport at a very high level, but his numbers are not quite on par with James. If you can wager money on James being the MVP, I would do so now. Barring an injury, (oh wait, that can happen in Cleveland) James is going to continue to put up nice numbers while leading the Cavs into the playoffs.

Tyler in Philly & Dave in Columbus asked: What are the top 5 dunk contest dunks of all time?

I put too much time into answering this question. After I finished, I wish I had back the hour it took me to do this. Here are the top 5 dunks from the dunk contests in my opinion.

5. Dwight Howard – Hit ball of backboard while in the air, then dunk it

This dunk probably wouldn’t make it in most people’s top 5 lists. This dunk made my list for its originality. I have never seen someone use so many different skills in one jam. Howard has to time the ball perfectly off the bounce, use just the right amount of strength to make the ball return to him, all while in the air. This was an awesome dunk that I need to see more than once when I watch it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Swk8Iyl7roQ&feature=related

4. Brent Barry, Michael Jordan, Julius Erving – The free throw line dunks

This dunk should just go to Dr. J, but I am feeling generous today. All three of these athletes completed an identical dunk. The reason Dr. J’s dunk is so special is because it was so much ahead of its time. This dunk was originally #1 because nobody has ever made the dunk from behind the free throw line. I wonder if anyone in our lifetimes will throw it down from behind the line. Everyone is always a one foot into the paint.

3. Jason Richardson – Catch the ball off the bounce on the baseline, through the legs from right hand to left hand, backwards

NBA TV has this one listed as number two on their list. The dunk was pretty cool back in 2003. I actually think that I found someone better than Vince Carter after watching this kid throw it down. Notice how seamless all of his dunks are.

2. Vince Carter – Off the bounce from T-Mac, through the legs.

This dunk made this list because of the shock value it had when I saw it. I won’t ever forget sitting in the basement of a friend’s house, drinking a few cold ones back in 2000. Yes, that would make me 14. Sorry Dad.

1. Jason Richardson – Off the backboard, through the legs.

The difficulty of this dunk is a 10 in my opinion. Vince Carter had someone bounce him the ball. Richardson had to throw the ball off of the backboard on his own. That is why he made my number one dunk of all time. I can play this dunk over and over. Why did NBA TV have this one ranked so poorly? It may have been because Vince Carter did the through the legs dunks a few years earlier.

That link covers most of the greatest dunks of all time.

Honorable Mention:

Gerald Green – Blowing out the candle

Dominique Wilkins – Two handed windmill

Vince Carter – Arm in the hoop

Spud Webb – Bounce and dunk

Derek in Columbus asked: What music do you think our kids will listen to? Do you think our kids will look back and appreciate the music their parent’s, and grandparents listened to?

Good question Derek. This question randomly pops into my head about three times a month. I always wonder, “Will there be a day when people forget the Beatles?” I would like to believe no, but what happens when everyone, and everything connected to the Beatles dies off? To answer your question, yes, I do think that some of the bands that we listen to today will be played by our children. I also think the music kids listen to is largely influenced by their parents. I would have never been a die-hard Springsteen fan if my father wasn’t playing The Boss. I listened to Born in the USA anywhere and everywhere I went with him when I was young. It was through the music of Springsteen, Neil Young, and Michael Stanley that opened my eyes to what I thought good music was. My father playing these bands when I was young ultimately affected the bands I listen to today. I think that it will go the same way when people our age begin having kids. I know that my kids will get a heavy dose of Mr. Matthews, Springsteen, and Matt Nathanson. I think that this will ultimately lead them into the right direction on what good music is. Another take on this that I have comes with fads. Our kids will listen mainly to the music of whatever fad culture is dominant at the time. When I was growing up, it was cool to wear some Fubu, sag your pants, and wear a silver dollar symbol. Today, it is cool to be listening to the whiny punk bands, and dress like a skater. I guess we will see when the time comes.

Music Mania

Violent Femmes – Blister in the Sun

I always want to hear this song on the weekends, but nobody ever seems to have the song. I know you have all heard this song at some point in you illustrious lives, but if you haven’t, it is worth the download.

Dave Matthews Band – Raven

Download the version from “Busted Stuff.” This is one of the hundreds of Dave Matthews Band songs I will tell mention in this section. This is excellent writing done by Dave Matthews in this song

Bun B Ft. Sean Kingston – That’s Gangsta

This is Bun B’s first song made after the death of partner Pimp C. This is a fun song just for Sean Kingston. I like the way this kid sounds on this track.

Lord Tariq and Peter Guns – Uptown Baby

I remember becoming addicted to this song back in the day. After watching all of the old dunks, I am in throwback mode. If you forgot about this song, make sure you download it today.

Nick Swardson – Wheel of Fortune

  1. Keith,

What are the chances that my daddy, Daniel Negreanu is gay? As you might know him and his wife have split up and I was wondering whether you think he is straight or not.

  2. Tyler Cortelezzi Says:

    KJ,

    Good

  3. Tyler your post is about as creative as Gerald Greens second dunk this year.

  4. Tyler Cortelezzi Says:

    KJ,

Good luck getting a job working 9-5! Let me know when you find one. I can not imagine anyone wants Hughes. I don’t think the Gauntlet rookies team would even trade Ryan for Hughes (If you watched the show you would know). Great elaboration on the fight question. The interesting fact is CT is the 3rd or 4th biggest guy on his team. Not to mention Jackson is “so hood”.

The NBA team is just absurd! I will take LBJ, Kobe, Duncan, Howard, and your choice of Paul/Billups any day of the week. I would for sure take Mike Conley (after 3 Cherry Bombs),Ron Lewis(could BINGAHOE at any minute),Simon(from JO), The Professor(no brainier), and Mutombo(waving that finger all night long). Last I checked you left of the 2 players who have won the last 3 MVP’s (Nash/Dirk). Not even mentioned! Sup wit dat??

Well done on the dunk answer. Jason Richardson vs. Vince Carter! Silly!

Good luck to Jay on his test and my question is as follows: Who were the top 5 toughest kids in Memorial when you were in 8th grade and I was in 9th??

    TC,

  5. Tyler please reread the introduction paragraph regarding Dirk and Nash. Thanks.

  6. Tyler Cortelezzi Says:

I was just making sure you read my posts! K you win, my bad, but I still like either of my teams better than yours. Though I guess Mutombo is uot as well! I post at work and always have to close the damn thing. Also, Bill Simmons talks CAVS trade in his most recent article.

PS. How ofter do you check this damn thing??

  7. Enough. I check it while at work. Plus I live on the net. Especially today. Trade deadline

  8. Conley after three cherry bombs…lololololol…coming back to the crib.

Keith, you called Howard a Hall of famer. Dont you think its a little early for that?

  9. Tyler,

Who would you assemble on the starting 5 for an OSU baskebtall pickup team.

    Here would be my team:

    1. Simon
    2. Steve
    3. Big Aaron
    4. The tall Sami (feldheim)
    5. Click

    Honorable mentions go to:

    1.Yonas
    2.Yonas’ cousin
    3.Yonas’ boy
4.Tall kid at toos and sky
    5.Pokey
    6.Aj/Sam Felice
    7. The velocorapter Sami
    8. Kustron

  10. kieth,

what do you think of Floyd Mayweather fighting The Big Show on Raw…haha…ridiculous. Also “The Long Slow Goodbye” by Queens of the Stone Age for your next top 5.

    I’ll comment back after lost…

  11. Dave Williams Says:

Despite some skepticism from the so called “experts” I think the Cavs made a great move today. On paper, it appears as though the Cavs gave up some scoring and perimeter defense (Hughes and Newble?), but I believe Gooden and Hughes have peaked as pros while there is significant upside to the players we brought in. Gooden was way too inconsistent and I think that the prospect of playing on a winner with LBJ will energize Wallace much like Randy Moss was energized with the Patriots. Also as a fail safe, Joe Smith and Gooden have identical numbers and who knows how much Smith can improve by playing with LBJ. Hughes is just terrible and never played so in my opinion, moving him was addition by subtraction, so when I consider that Gooden and Smith were an even swap, we basically got Wallace for nothing. Finally, Wally is a huge upgrade over Marshall, who has been hurt all year anyway, and I still think we made out after considering the other garbage we gave up for him. The one drawback of this deal is that we basically went all in on this trade. If it doesn’t work out we will be stuck with even higher contracts (wally and wallace) that may be next to impossible to move. However I see it working out and Wallace will bring some great experience and a strong defensive presence come post season time. This trade can only make us better because even if these players are busts, they won’t stop LBJ from continuing to win games on his own.

Here is my question KJ, with these new additions, what will the Cavs new Starting 5 look like?

  12. Tyler Cortelezzi Says:

Z do not worry your post got LOL x 22. Click, tall kid a toos, and is that Frato sami at 7? My team would have Thaddius Gibson (with clean draws), dunker, Evan, the DJ from McFaddens, and Boo Radley.

Yours was the post of the year!
